Vincenzo Bellini: Songs For Voice And Piano - Ricordi Publishing 

The edition of Vincenzo Bellini’s corpus of chamber works in the technico-critical revision by Elio Battaglia, one of the most distinguished authorities in the international panorama on the teaching of singing. The publication is in two volumes: as is the practice with the German Lied, the songs – almost all written for medium-high voice in the original version – have been transposed to enable a medium-low voice to tackle them. Every song is preceded by a historical-interpretative text in Italian and English analyzing the eminently “technical, or rather artistic” aspect, which guides the interpreter in tackling the complex world of Bellini’s vocal writing. The edition is complemented by a preface by the great German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, an afterword outlining the principles which have guided Battaglia’s work, and an afterword dealing with pronunciation.
